Muji planned a food and beverage outlet as the centrepiece of its new flagship store in Copenhagen, its first European F&B venture, appointing restaurateur Claus Meyer to lead creative direction.
Claus Meyer worked with Think Hospitality on trend scouting and a study tour of similar retail concepts and the Japanese food scene in Europe, before defining the final concept together.
The result was the first Muji TeaHouse, on the 4th floor of Copenhagen's ILLUM centre, adapting Japanese tea tradition for a modern lifestyle, teas selected by Muji's partner Sing Tehus alongside cakes blending Danish and Japanese baking traditions.
